Commerce Versus Combat
This article originally published in THE INTERNATIONALIST PAGE (http://theinternationalistpage.blogspot.com/) and written by Douglas Castle (http://aboutdouglascastle.blogspot.com/).
Dear Friends:
I know, I know. I keep on harping on the same theme. But please understand my reasoning:
As a member of the Human Family, I am invested in the future of the entire world, as are we all. It is too often an understood but unassigned responsibility that causes the weeds to flourish and the flowers to die. I will not leave an important message to chance -- if I do that, then I am being irresponsible. Here it is:
Business does not have to be a divisive, evil creature. In fact, commerce between entrepreneurs worldwide affords each of us an opportunity to be an ambassador...with geographical barriers being vaulted over by the internet, international business is more efficiently conducted than ever before. Imagine a strategically interdependent world: as an entrepreneur, I would not want to attack my customers, my vendors, my partners or my service providers. Strategic Interdependence might be a means through which Commerce becomes an impediment or an alternative to Combat. http://theinternationalistpage.blogspot.com/ http://www.thenationalnetworker.com/
Faithfully,
Douglas Castle

The Magic of Product Placement as a Promotion Medium
THE MAGIC OF PRODUCT PLACEMENT AS A PROMOTION MEDIUM.
by Douglas Castle, Featured columnist for THE NATIONAL NETWORKER.
Quick Preamble:
The idea of product placement promotion (as discussed briefly with Ed Harris in his role as Cristov, the producer of The Truman Show ), is a wonderful, almost subliminal way of introducing new brands with the perceived impression of acceptance. It is subtle, but powerful. I have recently become an officer in a company that is the Exclusive US Distributor for an amazing line of accessories for digital photographers. The products are made in Malysia, and imported here. You can learn more about them by going to http://speedlightprokitusa.blogspot.com/, or by visiting http://www.getglobaledge.com/ . Both the Malaysian company, Lightshop Design and its US counterpart, Global EdgeTechnologies Group LLC are both Member companies of TNNW.
Following is letter which I received from Mr. Sam Poon, who works with the Malysian company, and my letter of response to him. Please read both letter carefully. His letter to me was transmitted via Facebook.

Subject: A different kind of brand promotion
Hi Douglas,
Fresh from his Mexico workshop last weekends, Don Giannatti has a different kind of coverage of our speedlight pro kit in his article "Increasing Strobe Power with Photoshop". It was an indirect way of promoting our brand and I think it is brilliant! Check out the article here: http://www.facebook.com/l/eb55d;prophotoresource.com/index.php/Increasing-Strobe-Power-with-Photoshop.html?Itemid=0

Dear Sam:
Thank you very much for sending the Giannatti promotion hyperlink to me. Don is a well-regarded photographer. It is a perfect example of “product placement promotion.” It subtly showcases the product in an understated, “matter-of-fact” way which appeals to a more sophisticated prospective clientele. It is highly effective indeed.
When you forward me information in this way, it greatly assists us at http://getglobaledge.com/ in our marketing in the United States – this flow of information, if done very promptly and currently, can allow us to incorporate positive Speedlight ProKit reviews in our news releases to the media. Branding and sales will be very, very favorably affected. This could be of great benefit to you, as it would to us, and to the two principals of Lightshop Design.
Your sharing of breaking news with me is a major first step in building mutual respect, credibility and friendship. Cooperation is the key to building a successful organization, and your stock is rising in its value with me. Please also be at liberty to reference our blog, at http://speedlightprokitusa.blogspot.com/ as an additional tool in your many presentations.
Additionally, I would like to be your friend on Facebook, and would be delighted if you would add me to your network. Having said this, since I don't use Facebook that frequently, please always feel at liberty to send emails directly to me at douglas.castle@GetGlobalEdge.com . In this way, I can be more rapidly responsive. If you would be so kind, I would like to have your preferred direct email address for you in addition to the .speedlightprokit.com domain email.
Once again, Sam, thank you for your insight into this wonderful, dignified approach to marketing.
Faithfully,
Douglas Castle

The above is a photo of the irrepressible Sam Poon, engaging in gustatory gratification.

The Value Of Futurism - A Futurist Shares His Vision
Mitchell Joachim on the VALUE OF FUTURISM
Douglas Castle Presents a Futurist with a Unique Perspective.
As I have mentioned many times before in THE NATIONAL NETWORKER NEWSLETTER ,
we must either plan for the future or create it. Ignoring trends is simply not an option.
[Note: After you have read this article, please take a moment and jump over to THE INTERNATIONALIST PAGE blog. Here is the "teaser," followed by a truncated link... World peace through strategic interdependence. Growing entrepreneurship. Frightening trends http://twitlik.com/HeadlineTrends ]. And now we return to our regularly scheduled program...
Dear Friends:
I received a letter of great interest from a new acquaintance last week.
Andrew Seidler, the Associate Editor of BigThink asked me if I would be interested in re-publishing some fascinating videos containing some very penetrating and somewhat sardonic-sounding observations by fellow futurist Mitchell Joachim, a Professor of Architecture at Columbia University.
I have a strong affinity for Joachim and his philosophy. He is not only a man of ideas, but he is an advocate of thinking practically - something of a lost art in our excessively politically correct, conformity-obsessed, cause-of-the-moment culture (how about those hyper-hyphenations?).
Mr. Seidler's letter to me follows, with embedded hyperlinks to some very interesting video presentations. I am quite grateful to Mr. Seidler for bringing these quanta of intelligence to my attention so that I could share them with you, my readers.
Incidentally, I would recommend that you visit http://www.bigthink.com/. They have something of interest brewing there. In addition, I have added BigThink to our link list on this blog.

Hi Douglas,
I thought that Global Futurist might be interested in this extremely interesting clip from an interview that Mitchell Joachim, architect/’futurist’/and professor at Columbia, just did with BigThink.
In the interview, Joachim, who was recently named one of Wired Magazine’s “15 People the President Should Listen To” and winner of the History Channel and Infiniti Design Excellence Award for the City of the Future, offers an extremely engaging critique of our common notion of “sustainability,” arguing that the notion is ultimately too dry, un-evolving, and lackluster to be a valid ideal for the future:
http://bigthink.com/mitchelljoachim/the-bland-mediocrity-of-sustainability
Joachim also discusses the practicality of being a ‘futurist,’ and coming up with ‘big,’ elaborate solutions in an age confronted with issues –like the climate and energy crises-as large as ours:
http://bigthink.com/mitchelljoachim/the-practicality-of-big-idea
Mitchell also outlines his work to redesign the infrastructure based on New York—and eventually other cities—to create an urban system that is entirely self-sufficient (the video includes images and graphics from Joachim’s designs):

I hope you find these videos helpful and insightful. If you would like to link to them or embed them into your site, please feel free to do so. If you have any questions about Mitchell Joachim, or Big Think, please feel free to contact me at Andrew@bigthink.com or at our office at 212-242-0617.
Best regards,
