OUR PARENTS WERE WRONG ABOUT (AT LEAST) ONE THING: WE SHOULD MAKE IT A PART OF OUR ROUTINE BUSINESS PRACTICE TO TALK TO STRANGERS...EVERYWHERE, AND AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY.
I have met some fascinating individuals, cultivated some extraordinary business contacts, and have made some wonderful friends...all initiated through my simply. striking up conversations with strangers. I'll admit it -- on one occasion (a subway ride), a young woman slapped me. Having said this, I am still a powerful proponent of initiating conversations with strangers. This tends to be most effective when the strangers are 1) not on their way to an alimony hearing, and 2) are unarmed.
Seriously -- open doors by initiating conversations with strangers.
