STARBUCK[S]

Dear Readers:

The post which follows was reprinted from http://aboutdouglascastle.blogspot.com/ . I hope that you will be touched by it, and inspired to be as good as you secretly know that you can be.

STARBUCK[S]
I have meetings at the local Starbucks, and out of a sense of guilt, I generally buy a cup of coffee in lieu of making a rental payment. I don't particularly like the product, although I like the name..."Starbuck" was the last name of Burt Lancaster's character in "THE RAINMAKER." He invented the name, as he invented himself. Of poor and uncelebrated birth, he decided that he would make his own destiny instead of living out the miserable, small life that was "in the stars" for him. He defied the very heavens. He bucked the stars.

On the paper coffee cup, I was struck by a quote from Keith Olbermann, broadcast journalist and host of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann. I offer this quote to every living Human Being who has had to endure ridicule, reproach and social exile because he or she wanted something greater than what should have been "fated" for him or her:

The world bursts at the seams with people ready to tell you you're not good enough. On occasion, some may be correct. But do not do their work for them. Seek any job; ask anyone out; pursue any goal. Don't take it personally when they say "no" -- they may not be smart enough to say "yes".

Share this with somebody whom you suspect has great dreams, but hides them inside for fear of ridicule. Be the sole Rainmaker in the desert -- and make something beautiful bloom.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle
