One of the things that frustrates me the most is how the media spends a disproportionate amount of time focusing on political and corporate corruption, the global economic crisis, the Middle East, human rights violations or the conflict in Afghanistan and not on the real issues that face you and me today...the spread of global poverty.
This is a rising epidemic, much like a virus that must be stopped before it infects us all, and borrowing from corporate executives, politicians and other icons of industry whose examples we should all be following, I suggest these options:
1.) Treat them like animals: Let's face it...animals can't care for themselves, and you don't see them with bank accounts. If some of us just haven't learned to spend more than what they already have, then they might as well be treated like animals and be sent to the poor farm. By the way, this applies to governments as well - why do you think bond analysts, academics and the international press collectively call Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain (countries whose current debt far exceeds their GDP) PIIGS? Remember...do not feed the animals as you just might encourage them.
2.) Hold fund-raising benefits for them: Those of us "animal rights activists" with "soft spots" for the poor who cannot simply ignore the desperate cries for attention, I recommend fundraisers. They're a great way to show other privileged folks that you care (or at least, pretend to care). They even make great "feel good" stories when you're interviewed on TV, the newspaper or radio (and who doesn't want to feel good about themselves during these tough times?). This worked well in Haiti after the earthquake last year and look where they are today...case closed.
3.) Enslave them: Please don't get me wrong here...I am not advocating slavery based upon color, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or political affiliation. I am advocating it based upon economic status...there's a reason the Caste System is so enduring in Indian Culture. Referring back to #1 above, if one truly looks and treats poor people like animals than it's easy to see that you don't have to just settle for beasts when you could have beasts of burden! Now I'm not saying that you would even have to call them "slaves"...you can call them "employees" and pay them a small fraction of what you make. In this way you can have many of them to replace the chores you don't want to do. It's a win-win, and who doesn't love those?
The spread of global poverty is of concern to everyone - we can no longer ignore the poor, but at least we can put them to other great uses for the betterment of society.

Speaking of rich and poor, the song I chose for today is rather appropriate.
Pink Floyd got its start as a rhythm and blues band in the mid 1960's, originally named "The Pink Floyd Sound" and named after blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council by founding member Sid Barrett.
By 1967, under the leadership of Barrett, they carved a niche for themselves as a psychedelic band with the release of the classic The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
Tragedy would soon follow the band as Barrett suffered a drug-induced nervous breakdown from which he would never recover, leaving remaining members Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright in limbo.
The remaining three would soon recruit Barrett's childhood friend, David Gilmour and continue to make records for the next several years honing their new sound. In the 1973, they struck the rock 'n roll pot of gold with their magnum opus, The Dark Side of the Moon, revolving around themes of madness as an homage to their former bandmate, Barrett (a recurring subject on some of their later albums as well).
"Money", from Dark Side, is a jazz-induced rock anthem that endures to this day with it's unforgettable and easily recognizable hook.
Enjoy!
