Every single one of these "things" is a sensorial branding cue. The objective of every one of these things is to cause you (the consumer) to think of the brand behind the "thing." In a fashion, the "thing" represents the whole.
If you're in business you'll need one or all of the following "things" to make your brand "pop" into mind. In the blink of an eye, or in one moment of auditory stimulation, a small "thing" acts like a fast-growing seed implanted into someone's mind -- it rapidly becomes the whole tree, by starting as its representative.
In sum: These "things" (I call them "hooks") create rapid conscious associations. If your audience (your customers or clients) have already heard your message, these "hooks" instantly bring your message back into focus. Quickly. Efficiently.
Types Of Things: Symbols (logos, typestyles, emblems); Mascots; Slogans; Themes (musical and otherwise); Endorsements by celebrities or characters - the more outrageous (within the constraints of the law and your target audience's sensibilities), generally speaking, the better.
Walk softly but carry a big THING.
Faithfully,
Douglas Castle
