Dear Friends:

I use capitalization, boldface, italics, wacky fonts, contrived emoticons, profanity, pictures and multiple colors in order to get attention, and to break up the monotony of my occasionally boring style. People have ostracized me in the past for this practice, but they have gotten accustomed to it and have become undstanding and forgiving. Apparently, there are simply not enough problems associated with managing companies in a challenging economy and a changing culture, and one company actually fired an employee for a Capital Offense -- or, more aptly, for a Capitalization Offense. As it turns out, the terminated employee took this firing to court and won a decision in her favor to return to her job. Huzzah! Aren't there enough impediments to overcome on the way to prosperity and peace without our wasting our precious time looking for more behaviors to categorize as "politically incorrect" or "criminal"? Are we becoming so obsessed with control of others that we are actually discouraging originality, individuality and the creative process? My theory is that if spend too much time on compliance, you will (literally) never have a moment to think or do anything else...Why be so petty?

Please give this some thought. I appreciate good manners as well as the next Neanderthal, but is this rush to conformity contributing to the destruction of innovation and free speech? Hmmm... I'd like to know your thoughts.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER

Dear Readers:

Once again, I rojoice in the virtues of diversity, distraction and irrelevancy. I have written two articles to share with you. Should you take the time to read them, I would be grateful if you would post your heartfelt opinions under the COMMENTS Section at the end of each article.

Networking and connecting have changed my career path and my life, as they have changed, and will continue to change everybody's lives. I reveal myself in what I write, and I find that contacts do not turn into relationships unless there is a sharing -- at least an intellectual intimacy, an emotional insight, a shared joke, or a common experience.

Fellow networkers...I urge you to reveal yourselves to eachother. And I would like for all off us to graduate from business card collectors to friends and allies.
