Tagged.com - Social Network or Scam?

Thanks to Rob Botwin of Computer Systems Consultants...

PLEASE: CAREFULLY read the following article(s) referring to "tagged.com"...
This "virus-like" worm has been making the "rounds" with increasing regularity...
DO NOT BE THE NEXT VICTIM!

1) It is NOT a "virus" per se... But it DOES use "viral techniques" for self-promotion and self-propagation...
2) They (tagged.com) are an UNSCRUPULOUS company trying to self-promote via the vectors of ignorance & stupidity.
The main victims are those ALREADY involved in "social-networking" activities, e.g. FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, AOL, etc.
3) RUN (do not walk) from any emails that come via this vector & PLEASE FORWARD THIS ENTIRE EMAIL to people that you believe may be HOODWINKED by this SCAM!
4) The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has already been notified repeatedly about their UNSCRUPULOUS and possibly ILLEGAL activities!

Murderous Twist of Social Networking

Many of you that know my husband Adam J. Kovitz well may have heard about his involvement in interactive Poison Pen murder mysteries produced by his parents Susan and Joel. While I've always been a lesser fan of the mystery genre, Harper's Globe has changed my mind.

For 6 episodes of the CBS mystery event Harper's Island I have been trying, quite unsuccessfully to put together the pieces and search for clues. While admittedly I am not even an amateur sleuth, as past film student I do have the (often annoying) knack for seeing all too quickly what the director is trying to get at, so by the time it is reinforced in the plot a few more times I feel like they're beating a dead horse. Finally I have found a show that keeps me guessing and asking more questions. After seeing a good number of the suspects meet their early demise I finally, as instructed in the commercials that my husband likes to fast-forward through, went to the Harper's Globe website.

"Who are these people?" I asked myself not recognizing any of the main characters on the pages. "Who the heck is Robin?" Well, I got over the initial shock of disorientation and marched on even though it was quite excruciating for me to watch the blog videos because my computer is ancient and needed to be resuscitated after continually crashing due to memory overload. Fortunately it was only a technical issue and pencil and pad in hand I persevered and, wow, it was hardly the same show!

I totally love what they're trying to do to create an interactive experience. Life is made up of so many points of view and the people that created Harper's Globe get that. Weary of an omniscient author or director creating a seamless account to lull you into complacency? At Harper's Globe you can find a wiki of character and plot information, profiles of the characters, shocking and provocative video and social networking with other fans. How cool is that!

No spoilers here. The past episodes are online, everything else will far exceed any expectations. Enjoy the technotainment!

NETWORKING IN ACTION - Elaine Ingis

Elaine Ingis is an important contributor to THE NATIONAL NETWORKER (TNNW). Her regular Featured Monthly Column is titled: THE BOOM IN BOOMER NETWORKING.

NETWORKING IN ACTION
-Elaine Ingis

It’s driving me crazy but all I can think of is Susan Boyle and that song, “I had a dream . . . .” It amazes me when I think of how many people she must have spoken to, how many turns she must have taken, how many detours she must have been redirected towards to finally achieve the unachievable – She was a contestant on the British version of American Idol. It boils down to the most basic – Susan wanted something so badly, she networked, networked, networked regardless of the obvious working against her. We’ve probably all seen the video so it’s not important what the obstacles were. What is so flabbergasting is that this seemingly naïve, unsophisticated, shy woman, was so brilliant at networking and selling herself to whoever listened - she succeeded!

Networking is a natural action. We do it everyday – we talk to people, collect advice from people, we remember people and we file away the information until one day, it comes to us in an epiphany that you actually have an arsenal – a small army – working in your corner.

I too had a dream. No, not the song, but an actual dream. I wanted to build a much needed baby boomer community. I visualized, I planned, and yes, I even sweet-talked if I thought I could get someone’s attention. I was so proud of my executive summary which I passed out to whoever would allow me to buy them a Starbucks. Everyone was very kind and supportive (why not, I was feeding them) and kept throwing out new ideas, some of which I actually incorporated and directed me to other people to talk to. I wrote another executive summary – talked to more people, incorporated more new ideas, wrote another summary, talked to yet other people and so on and so on until I had something that made my initial vision just a blur of what it is today. Now What?

I now understood what I didn’t understand, I was confident; I knew what I didn’t know which was enormous but I was meeting people and slowly moving forward. Back to networking – back to the beginning –on to Douglas Castle. I connected with Douglas, on the internet around 3 years ago. Perhaps spoke to him 3 or 4 times during that period but never met mano to mano. But I was in my networking mode, third time going through my contact information and I was on the “Cs”. So, I figured – why not? We connected and I gave him my now infamous executive summary and . . . . . just check out my blog at http://srmeetup.blogspot.com/ to see how it’s all coming together. If this is not a perfect demonstration of networking in motion, what is?

Douglas exemplifies the meaning of networking, of working towards a common goal, of mentoring and trusting (not to mention patience, patience and then a bit more patience) He has connected me with so many new contacts I am humbled and grateful. I think he secretly wants to be SrMeetUp’s mascot.

I’m thrilled that I’m making this happen at the ripe young age of - - - - well, let’s just say I am a member of the 60+ Baby Boomer Community. I still network and am so excited by the enthusiasm and support for my Baby Boomer 60+ Community. SrMeetUp.com will be launched shortly – in the meantime I hope you enjoy our blog as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Check it out and let me know – How Do You Think We’re Doing?

The post which follows was originally published to the Yahoo! Group INTERNAL ENERGY PLUS. It was titled: "A NEW BLARTICLE". It has been edited for the purposes of republication here.

Dear Friends, Fellow Networkers, and Bob:

No. This has nothing to do with the success of the Hadron Collider. It is also not something that you have to scrape off of the bottom of a boat.

A "blarticle" according to the MOD*, is "an article-style written feature which is posted to a weblog."

Please click on HUMANITAS MAXIMUS. It is also the hub site for numerous other blogs which have content which you may find very, very (twice!) interesting.

***When you have read a something on a blog or on a Yahoo! Group posting (this is a hint) which you find interesting, it is a low-risk and high-reward networking proposition to simply forward the posting, article or blarticle to new friends and propspective business acquaintances whom you would like to develop. It is cost-free, easy networking.

In forwarding an item, I simply include a quick note, like "I thought that this would be of interest to you. All the best, Douglas". If you remove the "Douglas" (as it might not be your name), this is the world's easiest transmittal letter. Build your network and keep it alive by forwarding information to people. As Grandma would say, "What could be bad?"

I hope you enjoy the blarticle.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle
